About Aldea Arcoiris

Change Their Reality, Change Their Destiny

Inspired by the charism of St. John Baptist Scalabrini, Casa del Migrante Scalabrini A.C., Aldea Arcoiris, was legally founded in 2006 in Tapachula, Chiapas, by Father Flor María Rigoni, a Scalabrinian missionary who has devoted his life to accompanying migrants. His journey in Mexico led him to establish the first Casa del Migrante in Tijuana in 1985, followed by Casa del Migrante in Ciudad Juárez in 1988. Later, in 1998, he opened Casa del Migrante in Tapachula, Chiapas, where he led the mission for twenty years.

Together with an exemplary team of committed laypeople, he developed a comprehensive model that inspired other social actors and the Church to promote migrants as subjects of rights. This model fosters migrants' access to self-sufficiency opportunities and supports their effective integration in Mexico, whether as a country of origin, transit, or destination for migrants, refugees, and forcibly displaced people.

Driven by the positive impact on migrant lives, best practices, and recognition from the national government and international organizations, Aldea Arcoiris opened its doors in Jalisco in November 2018 to expand the model and broaden the horizons of humanitarian assistance. Since then, with Father Flor María moving on to continue his missionary path in other lands, Aldea Arcoiris remains active, carrying out its comprehensive programs led by a professional team that continues to honor and expand the mission.
